Custom builds for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3

This page is just my way of connecting with the people of the Ubuntu and Android communities, and a way that I can try to give a little back. I will try to post any important community updates or news as it rolls out.

I have a step-by-step, most importantly UPDATED, guide to compiling your own version of CyanogenMod 11 (Android 4.4.x) on Ubuntu 12.04. This guide is tailored for the Verizon Galaxy S3, as that is the phone I have and can my test builds on. It is very simple to switch out small pieces of code to adjust for almost any device, and I have noted instructions in the guide. I will also help you change the pieces that will enable you to build other versions of Android (AOSP or older version of CM).

We can discuss everything on the Forum page. You can ask questions, give me advice, or even curse me for breaking your device (obviously not my fault :D). You can ask for help with anything involving Ubuntu, Android, or anything else in the tech world. I have years of experience with all versions of Windows, MS Server & AD,  Ubuntu, Fedora (Red Hat Linux), Solaris, C++, C#, Java, HTML/XHTML & CSS, Cisco Routing and Switching, and much more. I've been a tech-nerd since the 90's, but I also know from experience that you never stop learning, especially in this field.

If you have anything to share, feel free to throw some learning my way! It's always appreciated. Help everyone by bringing up any topics that you feel are important. I want this to be our community.

Check out the Downloads page to find download links to my latest builds, and any other important downloads that may help along the way.

Ubuntu News:

  • Ubuntu Tops UK Government Security Assessment

    • In a recent security assesment of operating systems and software, the branch of the UK governemnt known as CESG, Communications and Electronics Security Group, has awarded the top spot to Ubuntu. The assesment compared 11 desktop and mobile platforms across 12 categories.

    • The criteria used in the assesment are roughly equivalent to a set of standard enterprise security best practices, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS came out on top - the only operating system to not score one single "significant risk," and to receive a passing score in 9 of 11 categories.

    • You can read the report here, which includes an explanation of the assesment, a visual representation of the assesment, and links to related further reading.

  • Android 4.4.4 is here.

    • I couldn't have came back to building at a better time. I am absolutely loving this update!! The UI is much cleaner, and much more befitting of the Android name.

    • Themes are amazing in this update, and there are a lot of hard working devs out there putting together some great looking themes for you guys.

    • Update now and check out the new goodies!

  • The site has been neglected for the last few months, and I apologize.

    • I unintentionally took an extended hiatus from the beginning of March through the end of June. I am back at it now, thankfully, though much has changed.

    • The new d2lte build is on the downloads page. I'm currently testing the build on my phone, and so far so good.

    • When I first came back to build, I had no idea what was going on. My builds wouldn't boot, or the build would break and throw a random exit error.

    • I finally realized what was going on after, you guessed it, reading!! Lol. I read up on the subject, and found that CyanogenMod had dropped d2vzw support, along with others, and cobmined them into the d2lte.

    • I updated my brunch command to reflect the change, and viola... build = success.

  • I am constantly working to update, customize, and theme KangFu. If you have any ideas or apps that you think should be baked in, shoot me an email, or start a thread on the forums page.
